Linux Foundation adopts TRACE standard for AI agent governance

The technology sector is seeing a significant push toward standardized governance and observability for AI agents. The Linux Foundation has assumed stewardship of TRACE (Trust, Runtime Attestation and Compliance Evidence), an open specification developed by AMD, Intel, Microsoft, OPAQUE, and the Technology Innovation Institute. TRACE provides a vendor-neutral, hardware-attested method for creating verifiable records of how AI agents operate, including their execution environment and the policies applied during workloads.

In the enterprise space, companies are implementing various AI strategies. Cisco is rolling out MyAgent, a supervised autonomous AI agent, to its 90,000 employees to move beyond simple chat into complex workflows. Meanwhile, Operata has launched expanded observability tools to monitor both AI and human agents within customer experience (CX) tech stacks, aiming to provide a single control layer for integrated interactions.

Regulatory and operational challenges also persist. The EU AI Act has introduced new transparency requirements, mandating that customers be informed when interacting with AI. In the contact center industry, experts emphasize the importance of hybrid models that combine AI efficiency with human empathy, noting that while AI can handle routine tasks, human judgment remains essential for complex or emotional interactions.
