Linux Kernel receives 7.1.8 security update and Armbian implements 7.2 enablement
Recent updates to the Linux kernel ecosystem include the release of version 7.1.8 and significant development work within the Armbian project.
Linux Kernel 7.1.8, released by Greg Kroah-Hartman, includes over 200 commits. The update focuses on security patches for the networking stack, addressing use-after-free vulnerabilities in SCTP, TIPC, and WiFi subsystems. It also provides fixes for USB serial heap overflows, Thunderbolt validation, and graphics driver refinements for AMD and Intel hardware.
Simultaneously, the Armbian project has implemented kernel 7.2 enablement across various out-of-tree drivers. Key improvements include redesigned installation tools with expanded boot topologies for eMMC and NVMe, and new UEFI cloud ISO delivery capabilities. The update also introduces support for new hardware, such as the Milk-V DuoS (aarch64+riscv64) and Tanix TX6S, alongside targeted fixes for Rockchip platforms.
