Linux Mint announces new productivity apps for version 23

The Linux Mint project has announced several new productivity applications slated for the Linux Mint 23 release, which is expected in late 2026.

Key updates include a new calendar application internally named ‘Clockenstein’. Replacing GNOME Calendar, this tool will support local calendars, Google accounts, and CalDAV servers, including Nextcloud. It features a background synchronization mechanism and independent desktop notifications to ensure users receive reminders even when the application is not actively open. The app will also integrate with the Cinnamon desktop environment.

A new e-book reader named ‘Xepub’ is also being introduced. Designed to provide an experience similar to Kindle or Kobo, Xepub will support EPUB files and include features such as chapter navigation, full-text search, bookmarks, and annotations. Users will be able to highlight text, adjust font settings, and use integrated tools to search for definitions or translations.

Additionally, the ‘Library’ application (project name ‘Thingy’) is being overhauled. Instead of grouping documents by the application used to open them, the new version will organize files by file type. This allows for more intuitive management of different document formats and provides customizable categories for users.
