Linz begins construction on new Lentos bicycle ramp

Construction has begun on a new bicycle and pedestrian ramp in Linz, Austria, designed to connect the Nibelungen Bridge and Donaupark directly to the Lentos Art Museum. The project aims to eliminate a long-standing weakness in the local transit network by providing barrier-free access and avoiding the heavily trafficked Untere Donaulände.

The steel structure will be 122.7 meters long and between 3.50 and 3.90 meters wide, overcoming a height difference of 5.31 meters with a gradient of approximately 4.3 percent. The project is being co-financed by the City of Linz and the state of Upper Austria with a budget of 3.4 million euros. Construction is expected to be completed by July 2027.

The design incorporates efforts to preserve the existing trees in Donaupark and includes features such as illuminated handrails and non-slip surfaces. This development comes amid a significant increase in cycling activity in Linz, with recent data showing a 71.7 percent increase in cyclists on certain routes compared to the previous year.
