Baden-Württemberg promotes food sovereignty to ensure security
On the occasion of World Food Day, Marion Gentges, the Minister for Rural Areas, Agriculture, and Home Affairs in Baden-Württemberg, emphasized the growing importance of regional food production.
Global crises and climate change, including recent heatwaves and drought damage in Baden-Württemberg, have challenged existing food systems. Additionally, interrupted global supply chains have led to increased costs for fertilizers and fuel. To address these issues, the state aims to anchor 'food sovereignty' as a state goal in the regional constitution. This initiative seeks to strengthen the right to self-determined, sustainable, and equitable food production through innovative cultivation methods and new plant varieties.
