Linz railway bridge components disappear from storage

Green steel components from the historic Linz railway bridge have disappeared from a Linz AG storage site. The bridge was demolished in 2016, and while an architectural competition in 2015 had proposed the ‘Floating Garden’ project to repurpose parts of the structure, that plan was never implemented.

Mayor Dietmar Prammer stated that three parts of the former bridge were transferred to the HTL Paul-Hahn-Straße during the summer. However, the whereabouts of the green steel arch components remain unknown. Linz AG has declined to comment on the matter.

Local council member Lorenz Potocnik criticized the lack of transparency, noting that there had been promises to reuse the historical elements. He expressed concern that the components may have been sent to a blast furnace for recycling.
