Linz researchers develop smart glove for objective medical palpation

Researchers from the University of Linz and the startup sendance GmbH have developed a specialized smart glove designed to make medical palpation more objective. The technology, detailed in the journal ‘Science Advances’, aims to address the inherent subjectivity of manual physical examinations.

By using stretchable, self-developed touch sensors and magnetic position sensors in the fingertips, the ‘DigiPalp’ system can collect precise data on tissue texture. This could assist doctors in identifying abnormalities, such as tumors during breast examinations, or assessing the condition of organs and joints. The system provides quantifiable data that can support diagnostic decisions and allow for long-term medical comparisons.
