Lionel Messi acquires Spanish second-division club CD Eldense

Lionel Messi has officially announced his acquisition of CD Eldense, a club competing in the Spanish second division. The deal, which involves purchasing the shares previously held by a Colombian investment group, marks Messi's second Spanish club ownership in 2026, following his acquisition of UE Cornellà in April.

According to the club, the takeover aims to launch a long-term project to enhance the sporting, institutional, and social development of the century-old institution. The acquisition is currently pending formal authorization from Spain's National Sports Council (CSD) in accordance with the country's Sports Act.

The takeover comes at a challenging time for CD Eldense, which is currently struggling in the lower half of the Segunda División standings. Despite the administrative transition, the team recently secured a 4-1 victory against Real Oviedo, a result that Messi celebrated publicly on social media.
