Lionel Messi misses third consecutive penalty during Inter Miami loss

Lionel Messi has matched a career-low by missing three consecutive penalties across club and international competitions. The most recent miss occurred during Inter Miami’s 4-1 loss to Nashville SC, where Messi failed to convert a spot-kick after Luis Suarez was fouled in the box.

Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake saved the attempt, preventing an equalizer. A subsequent goal by Sergio Reguilon following the rebound was disallowed due to encroachment. This failure marks Messi’s third straight miss in regulation time, following unsuccessful attempts during the 2026 World Cup against Austria and Egypt.

Throughout his professional career, Messi has converted 125 out of 162 penalties. This current drought represents a rare statistical dip for the Argentine captain.
