Lionel Messi regrets not learning English at an early age
Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has expressed deep regret over not learning English at an early age. In statements reported by the Catalan newspaper Sport, the Inter Miami captain noted that missing this opportunity has hindered his ability to communicate fluently with influential figures he meets outside his family circle.
Messi explained that during his final school year in Argentina, he knew he would eventually leave the country for a professional career, yet he did not utilize the time to study the language. He admitted to feeling embarrassed or limited when unable to engage directly with prominent individuals due to the language barrier, sometimes relying on translators or withdrawing from conversations.
While Messi uses English privately with his children—Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro—he prefers using Spanish in public settings and feels uncomfortable speaking English in professional or social environments.
