Lionel Messi slated to become Inter Miami shareholder after retirement
Javier Asensi, president of business operations at Inter Miami, said the club is preparing for Lionel Messi’s post‑playing role. While MLS rules currently prevent Messi from being a co‑owner, Asensi explained that once Messi decides to retire, the Argentine star will immediately become one of the club’s shareholders. Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 and extended his contract through 2028, continues to play at a high level, but the club is already planning for the era after his on‑field career.
The plan envisions Messi maintaining a close connection to the team as an owner, allowing him to continue contributing to Inter Miami’s growth after he hangs up his boots.
