Lionel Scaloni addresses Argentina's transition after Messi retirement
Following Lionel Messi’s international retirement and a 3-0 victory against Benin, Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has addressed the challenges of the team’s upcoming generational transition.
Scaloni noted that while the team must continue without Messi, the transition will be difficult because the level of success achieved in recent years is unprecedented. He emphasized that the only way to compensate for Messi’s absence is through collective strength and a cohesive team. The coach expressed confidence in the squad's ability to navigate tough periods by integrating emerging talents such as Nico Paz, León Flores, and Santiago Tomás Castro, who have provided fresh tactical alternatives.
Regarding his own future, Scaloni’s contract is set to expire at the end of the year. While the Argentine Football Association (AFA) intends to extend his tenure for another World Cup cycle, Scaloni stated that there are currently no updates regarding his renewal, though he remains open to continuing if conditions allow.
