Lionel Scaloni declines Lazio coaching proposal, remains with Argentina

Edy Reja told Il Messaggero that two years ago he spoke with Lazio president Claudio Lotito and wrote to Lionel Scaloni to ask if he wanted to return to Lazio as head coach.

Scaloni responded that he would stay with the Argentina national team, saying “No mister, I stay with my Argentina, I have a commitment and I will not step back,” and therefore turned down the offer.

Reja praised Scaloni’s modern tactical ideas and his unique eye for evaluating players, noting the Argentine coach’s recent achievements – back‑to‑back Copa America wins and the 2022 World Cup title – and his expected involvement in the 2026 World Cup final.
