Lions Clubs in Haut-Rhin recycle computers to fight digital illiteracy

In the Haut-Rhin region of France, ten Lions Clubs from South Alsace have been organizing regular computer dismantling sessions since 2021 to combat digital illiteracy and manage electronic waste.

During a recent session in Diefmatten, approximately fifteen volunteers and supporters gathered at the Nouvel avenir recyclage company to dismantle 300 computers. Participants from various clubs, including those from Altkirch, Guebwiller, Mulhouse, Thann-Cernay, Saint-Louis, and Wittenheim Bassin-Potassique, worked to sort components such as memory sticks, processors, hard drives, and electronic boards.

The initiative aims to repurpose materials and prevent waste by collecting devices from local authorities, schools, hospitals, businesses, and individuals.
