Toei Animation and Lionsgate form strategic distribution partnership

Toei Animation and Lionsgate have entered into a strategic partnership to expand the Japanese studio’s presence in North America. Under the agreement, Lionsgate will serve as the U.S. distribution partner for new projects produced by Toei Animation and will act as a primary collaborator for future co-productions.

The collaboration begins with the 2027 wide theatrical release of the CG-anime feature Monkey Quest. Directed by David N. Weiss, the film is inspired by the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West and features a voice cast including Auli’i Cravalho, Adam Devine, and J. K. Simmons. The film follows a 12-year-old girl and her brother as they search for their parents and encounter a legendary protector of Earth.
