Lionsgate develops Michael Jackson biopic sequel

Lionsgate is developing a sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic following the first film's global box office success, which exceeded $1 billion. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, confirmed that the studio aims to begin filming between late 2026 and early 2027.

The production is expected to be released in late 2027 or during the first half of 2028. The studio noted that approximately 25% to 30% of the necessary footage, including major musical sequences that were not included in the original edit, has already been recorded.

While the specific era of Jackson's life to be covered remains unconfirmed, the existing footage covers events following his early career. Lionsgate has not yet officially confirmed if Jaafar Jackson or director Antoine Fuqua will return for the continuation.
