Lipno Dam capacity drops to 50 percent amid Czech drought
The Lipno Dam in the Czech Republic has reached approximately 50.72 percent of its capacity due to prolonged drought. According to representatives from Povodí Vltavy, the reservoir is missing over 124 million cubic meters of water.
Water levels are declining daily, as the inflow to the reservoir averages less than two cubic meters per second, while the outflow into the Vltava River is approximately six cubic meters per second. The low water levels have caused the river to return to its original bed in certain areas near the dam's inflow. Additionally, ferry services between Horní Planá and Bližší Lhota have been suspended due to the low water levels.
Other reservoirs in the Vltava cascade, such as Orlík, are also experiencing significant declines. To maintain the necessary flow of the Vltava River in Prague, Povodí Vltavy is utilizing water reserves from the Slapy Dam for the first time in history.
