Lipno Reservoir ferry service suspended due to low water levels

The ferry service between Horní Planá and Bližší Lhota on the Lipno Reservoir has officially ceased operations due to critically low water levels. The final trip took place on the morning of Thursday, September 24.

Low water levels had already forced restrictions on the ferry since early August, including a ban on transporting trucks, trailers, and tractors. While pedestrians and cyclists could continue using the service, the continuous decline in the reservoir's water level eventually made operations impossible. Local volunteer firefighters assisted in removing the ferry from the water.

The hydrological situation has also impacted navigation. The State Navigation Administration has issued warnings and restrictions, noting that guaranteed navigable depths are only available in specific sections. If water levels continue to drop below 719.60 meters above sea level, the navigation route parameters can no longer be guaranteed. The receding waters have also exposed previously submerged shallows, making some parts of the reservoir accessible on foot.
