Lipno reservoir outflow returns to minimum levels

Water outflow from the Lipno II reservoir has stabilized at a minimum flow rate of 6 m3/s following a period of hydrological drought. During mid-August, outflow had briefly increased to nearly 12 m3/s to compensate for insufficient water levels in the Hněvkovice and Kořensko profiles.

According to Tomáš Kendík of Povodí Vltavy, these adjustments are necessary to maintain required flow limits for downstream waterworks, including the Hněvkovice and Kořensko dams. These limits are essential to support the cooling water requirements of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant and to ensure adequate water levels for Prague, which requires a flow of 15 to 20 m3/s for hygiene and environmental purposes.
