Lipo HD surgery enhances abdominal definition but does not prevent fat gain
Lipo HD surgery can enhance abdominal definition by removing subcutaneous fat to highlight existing muscle contours, but it does not prevent future weight gain or fat accumulation. According to plastic surgeon Dr. Leandro Faustino of the Revion International Clinic, the procedure targets fat just beneath the skin and does not alter the body's physiological capacity to store energy.
While the surgery improves visual aesthetics, it does not replace the benefits of physical exercise. Without maintaining healthy habits, patients may experience weight gain, which can lead to an increase in visceral fat—fat stored around internal organs. Research indicates that women who underwent abdominal liposuction without subsequent physical training saw a roughly 10% increase in visceral fat, a risk mitigated by regular exercise.
Other common treatments for localized fat include cryolipolysis, radiofrequency, and ultrasound. These methods aim to reduce small fat deposits and improve body contour rather than treating obesity. Unlike surgical liposuction, these non-invasive options may offer temporary results and carry risks such as swelling, bruising, or temporary sensitivity changes.
