British Times lists Greek island of Lefkada among top quiet escapes

The British Times included the Greek island of Lefkada in its list of the best Greek islands with a tranquil atmosphere, describing it as a “place of myths and legends” linked to the nymph Calypso and Odysseus. The newspaper highlighted the island’s “stunning turquoise waters” and its notable beaches – Platy Gialos, Kampos and Monodendi – as examples of its natural wealth.

Mayor Evaggelistra Laountou said the Times feature is a “highly honourable recognition of the island’s authenticity and unique character” and underscored its importance as the archipelago faces growing international competition, sustainability challenges and evolving tourist expectations. The municipal promotion aims to strengthen Lefkada’s presence in key overseas markets while preserving its unspoiled environment.
