Liptov region's natural water reservoirs draw tourists in Slovakia

The Hrabová reservoir in the Hrabovská valley near Ružomberok, originally built for industrial water supply, now serves as a free‑entry recreational lake. In summer it functions as a natural swimming pool, while winter attracts ice‑water swimmers. The site also hosts a bike park, zipline, rope courses and ski facilities, making it a year‑round destination for families, couples and adventure seekers.

Nearby natural sites add to Liptov’s appeal. The mineral lake Zlá voda near Stankovany bubbles with carbonated water and is popular for its skin‑tingling feel and perceived health benefits. The Kalameny thermal lake offers warm, 33 °C water that can be enjoyed even in winter and is maintained by local volunteers. Both locations charge only for parking, providing free access to unique mineral and thermal waters.
