Lira City: 25-year-old killed by mob after suspected robbery
A 25-year-old man, identified as Alany Gerald, was killed by a mob in Lira City's Ojwina ward on the night of August 24, 2026.
According to North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema, the incident occurred after Gerald and several accomplices broke into a residence and stole household items. The group reportedly returned to the same home a second time to steal more property, at which point Gerald was caught by the homeowner while his companions escaped.
The homeowner and members of the local community subsequently beat Gerald, leading to his death. His body was later discovered in the middle of a road. Police have retrieved the body for a postmortem at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. While investigations are ongoing, no arrests have been made yet. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report suspects to the police instead.
