Lisa documentary “Always Lalisa” explores solo career and life beyond K-pop

The documentary “Always Lalisa” follows the global superstar Lisa during a transformative year away from her K-pop group, Blackpink. The film documents her journey as she launches her solo career, including the release of her album “Alter Ego,” her acting debut in the third season of “The White Lotus,” and her performance at the 2025 Coachella Music Festival.

Director Sue Kim revealed that the production had total creative freedom through Sony Music Vision and did not work with YG Entertainment. Kim noted that while they attempted to license footage of Lisa’s trainee days and Blackpink music videos, YG Entertainment did not permit it. The documentary highlights Lisa’s personal growth and her efforts to redefine herself outside the strict constraints of the K-pop system, which previously included heavy monitoring of her personal life and social activities.
