Lisa Kudrow discusses sitcom casting and her career

Actress Lisa Kudrow has reflected on her career and the casting processes that shaped her path before her breakout role on the sitcom ‘Friends’. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kudrow noted that early in her career, she was often told she was not “gorgeous” enough to be cast as a series regular or a romantic lead in sitcoms.

Kudrow shared that she had initially considered auditioning for the role of Rachel Green, but suggested to her agents that she could play the character as a “Jewish American Princess” rather than the romantic lead. She eventually secured the role of Phoebe Buffay.

Additionally, Kudrow discussed her recent decision to watch ‘Friends’ for the first time since the show ended, following the 2023 death of co-star Matthew Perry. She also highlighted her acclaimed work on the HBO series ‘The Comeback’, for which she has received multiple Emmy nominations throughout her career.
