Lisandro Macarrulla regrets accepting Dominican Presidency Ministry role

Former Dominican Republic Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, stated in a recent podcast that accepting his government position in 2020 was a mistake and that he should have resigned on his first day. Macarrulla, a businessman by profession, noted that he was unprepared for the political ecosystem, citing issues such as political intrigue, lack of vision among politicians, and “political evil.”

Despite his regrets regarding the political environment, Macarrulla expressed satisfaction with the economic recovery during his tenure. He noted that while the economy contracted by approximately 6% in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it grew by nearly 12% in 2021 under the administration of President Luis Abinader.

Macarrulla resigned from his post in August 2022. His departure followed reports involving his son in the “Operación Medusa” administrative corruption case, which primarily involves former prosecutor Jean Alain Rodríguez. At the time of his resignation, Macarrulla stated he had fulfilled his commitment to support the President for two years.
