Lisbon airport nocturnal flight limits frequently exceeded, Zero reports
The environmental association Zero has launched a new monitoring platform to track nocturnal flights at Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport. The tool, utilizing Flightradar24 data, aims to allow citizens to monitor aircraft movements between midnight and 6:00 AM and identify instances where noise levels and flight volumes exceed legal limits.
According to data released by Zero, the weekly limit of 91 nocturnal movements was respected in only two of the first 35 weeks of 2026. The association reported that during the week of August 17 to 23, 187 movements occurred, which is 96 more than the permitted amount. Additionally, the daily limit of 26 movements was exceeded on 23 different nights.
Zero is criticizing the Portuguese government for failing to implement a previously announced ban on flights between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM. The organization is also calling on the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) to provide greater transparency regarding flight numbers, the number of infractions, and the collection and use of fines for noise mitigation measures.
