Lisbon City Council reinstates resident associations to Housing Council

The Lisbon City Council has approved a new composition for the Municipal Housing Council (CMH). This decision includes the reintegration of resident associations that had been excluded from a previous proposal approved last week.

Opposition parties, including the PS, PCP, and BE, characterized the move as a political retreat by Mayor Carlos Moedas. While the PS stated the inclusion of resident associations restores the principle of housing as a fundamental right, the BE described the reversal as a “huge defeat” for the Mayor following public criticism regarding the previous plan to prioritize real estate developers over local residents.
