Lisbon Metro Blue Line to Run Reduced Hours in August for CBTC Signal Tests
During August, the Lisbon Metro’s Blue Line will operate on a temporary weekend timetable to accommodate technical trials of the new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system. Service will close at midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and resume at 07:30 on Saturdays and Sundays, while weekdays will keep the regular 06:30‑01:00 schedule.
The schedule change aims to provide extra night‑time access to the infrastructure for the validation phase of CBTC before its full launch, which is expected to improve train positioning, safety, frequency and overall capacity. Passengers can use alternative Carris bus routes (e.g., lines 711, 726, 746, 758, 767, 207) that serve the same corridor, with recommended advance checks of timetables.
