Lisbon Metro Circular Line Petition Calls for Loop Alternative

Petitioners opposing the planned Circular Line of the Lisbon Metro submitted a letter to Mayor Carlos Moedas, urging him to press the national government for a loop‑track design instead. The circular proposal, which would connect Rato to Cais do Sodré with two new stations and create a ring on the Green Line, is criticised for causing major delays and higher costs. The petition, titled “A Linha Circular vai atrasar a nossa vida!” and backed by more than 4,000 signatures gathered by the PCP, argues that the loop solution would preserve direct links to the city centre, reduce expenses and better serve commuters from northern districts such as Lumiar, Telheiras and Odivelas. Pedro Lemos, a PCP activist, delivered the letter during a public meeting of the Lisbon City Council, highlighting that the loop design is technically feasible and more cost‑effective.
