Lisbon protesters march for universal animal rights

Approximately 300 people marched through Lisbon to advocate for the rights of all animals, regardless of species. The demonstration began at Campo Pequeno and proceeded toward the Assembleia da República.

Organizer Mia de Carvalho described the movement as an abolitionist, vegan cause fighting for animal liberation and universal rights, including the rights to life, habitat, justice, and freedom. She emphasized the need to change the societal paradigm regarding how different species are perceived, noting that all animals are sentient and deserve rights.

Participants highlighted concerns regarding the conditions in slaughterhouses and farms, with some advocates calling for the exclusion of animal products from individual diets to address what they described as cognitive dissonance regarding animal consumption.
