Lisbon protesters oppose Marco Rubio's visit to Portugal

Approximately 300 people gathered in Lisbon on Wednesday to protest the upcoming visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Portugal. Organized by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), the demonstration took place at Largo de São Domingos under the slogan “No to the presence of Marco Rubio in Portugal.”

Protesters raised various issues, including calls for an end to war, opposition to the situation in Palestine, and condemnation of the blockade on Cuba. Isabel Camarinha, president of the CPPC, argued that the visit aims to ensure Portugal remains compliant with the impositions of the United States, NATO, and the European Union, calling for the protection of national sovereignty and peaceful conflict resolution.

Rubio is scheduled to meet with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel to discuss cooperation in defense, economy, and technology. This visit follows recent demonstrations against the U.S. official in Athens, Greece.
