Lisbon Stock Exchange companies face increased short selling
Five companies listed on the Lisbon Stock Exchange are currently subject to short selling positions exceeding 0.5%, according to disclosures from the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM). The companies identified are Altri, BCP, Mota-Engil, Nos, and Navigator.
Short selling is an investment strategy where investors borrow securities to sell them, aiming to repurchase them later at a lower price to profit from the difference. While some view the practice as speculative and potentially disruptive to stock values, asset managers argue it is a legitimate tool for anticipating market movements and managing portfolio risk.
