Lisbon to launch Parque Tejo upgrade and new river station by 2027

Lisbon municipal authorities announced that the first phase of the Parque Tejo redevelopment will start in 2027, with a budget of €25 million to transform 48 hectares of the former landfill into extensive lawns, hundreds of trees, thousands of shrubs, playgrounds, kiosks and restaurants. Councilor Joana Baptista said about 600 trees and more than 130,000 shrubs will be planted, creating a “climatic refuge” alongside the Tagus River and new sport facilities.

At the same time, the city will open a new fluvial station in the Parque das Nações in 2027, complementing existing river terminals and allowing boats from Cais do Sodré and Terreiro do Paço to dock there. The project is linked to broader mobility plans, including the pending electric tram line 16E, and a provisional terminal for the Rock in Rio festival is slated for 2028 at Parque Tejo.
