Lisbon to receive increased police presence by year-end

Portugal's Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, announced that Lisbon will receive an increase in police presence by the end of the year. The reinforcement includes approximately 200 new officers for the Public Security Police (PSP) and 100 for the Lisbon Municipal Police.

Speaking at the 135th anniversary of the Lisbon Municipal Police, Neves noted that the current year is significant for the PSP because the government has authorized two simultaneous recruitment competitions, a move not seen in many years. While some vacancies remain unfilled, Neves expects a surplus of agents as approximately 300 new officers enter the force.

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas expressed satisfaction with the announcement, noting that he had previously advocated for increased security resources in the capital. He stated that the minister's speech confirmed the promises made to bolster the city's policing capabilities.
