Lisbon’s Calouste Gulbenkian Museum Reopens After Major Renovation

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon has reopened to the public following a year‑and‑a‑half renovation that restored the spirit of its 1969 design. Entry is free until 26 July, marking the 70th anniversary of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The refurbishment improved lighting, climate control and security systems, reinstated original glass façades, and introduced new display cases. Galleries have been re‑configured, a new numismatics room added, and the Lalique room redesigned to include works by Edward Burne‑Jones and John Singer Sargent. The reopening featured a concert by the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra under Carlo Rizzi. The renovation, which began in March 2025, is part of a broader project slated for completion by 2026.
