Lisbon’s New Airport Project Delayed to 2037 with €8 bn Cost Estimate

A technical report from ANA to the Portuguese government confirms that the new Lisbon Airport (Luis de Camões) will cost between €7.9 bn and €8.9 bn. The earliest operational date is set for 2037, about 11 years from now, despite the government’s desire to accelerate the schedule.

The airport design includes a high‑speed rail connection that would reach the city centre in roughly 26 minutes, alongside a shuttle service to Oriente station and proposals for a direct conventional rail link. Builders warn that rising construction inflation, supply‑chain disruptions and current geopolitical uncertainties could further increase overall costs.
