Luís de Camões Airport environmental study delivered, construction set for 2029
ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, operating under Vinci Airports, submitted the final Environmental Impact Study for the new Luís de Camões Airport to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) on Friday. The 5,000‑page report, produced over 18 months by more than 60 specialists, examines water resources, noise, ecosystems, air quality, health and socio‑economic impacts.
The project is valued at €7.9‑€8.9 billion (2024 prices). Construction is slated to begin in 2029 and finish by 2033, with testing, certification and an opening planned for 2035—earlier than the previously indicated mid‑2027 schedule. A financial report is due on 17 January 2027, and the full application will be filed in January 2028. The Portuguese Order of Architects will work with ANA to select the airport’s architectural teams, ensuring design quality alongside functional requirements.
