Lise Klaveness proposes structural reforms to overhaul FIFA

Lise Klaveness, president of the Norwegian Football Federation, has proposed a comprehensive structural reform plan to overhaul FIFA and reduce the centralized power of its president, Gianni Infantino. Klaveness, a former international player and attorney, has long criticized FIFA's governance, particularly following concerns regarding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and recent attempts to sell tournament interests to private investors like Thrive Capital.

Klaveness’s reform proposal focuses on five key areas: 1. Implementing independent selection for committee members to replace presidential appointments. 2. Reducing the size of the FIFA Council by one-third to one-half to increase efficiency. 3. Establishing clear boundaries between administration and the presidency, moving the president toward a non-executive role. 4. Shifting focus from continuous commercial revenue growth toward governing the laws of the game, transfers, and tournaments. 5. Revising and implementing the reforms originally promised during Infantino’s 2015 election.

Her vision has gained momentum as a coalition of European nations and political figures have increasingly called for leadership changes within the organization.
