Liskeard gas pipe repaired after leak, evacuation lifted

A gas pipe on Pengover Road in Liskeard was accidentally struck by third‑party contractors, causing a major leak. Wales & West Utilities deployed emergency crews, set up a 100‑metre safety cordon and evacuated nearby homes. Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service warned residents to avoid open flames, barbecues, candles and any activity that could create sparks.

Engineers worked through the night and completed a full repair of the damaged pipe. Peter Frearson, gas emergency service manager for Wales & West Utilities, said the repair was finished and the site was being cleared, allowing residents to return to their homes. The utility thanked the community for their patience during the operation.
