Liskeard launches new Mockingbird foster family support network

A new Mockingbird constellation support network has launched in the Liskeard area of Cornwall, bringing together seven foster families and 16 children in care. This marks the fourth such network established in Cornwall.

The Mockingbird model utilizes a central ‘hub home’ to provide practical and emotional support to other families, referred to as satellite carers. This structure is designed to create a community similar to an extended family, offering opportunities for planned sleepovers to ensure continuity of care for children while providing foster carers with necessary breaks.

Cornwall Council noted that the initiative comes amid high demand for foster placements, stating that up to 40 children or young people in the region may require placement at any given time. The council is focusing on improving training and assistance to encourage more foster care applications.
