Liskeard Town Council grants funds to local foodbank
Liskeard Town Council has awarded a £900 grant to the Liskeard & Looe Foodbank to assist with its upcoming relocation. The funds are intended to cover physical modifications at a new property, including the creation of a welcome area and toilet modifications, as part of a project costing £1,840.
The foodbank aims to move into the new premises in the New Year, intending to establish a ‘one-stop shop’ where residents can access both food and additional support services in a single location.
The grant arrives as the organization faces significant operational challenges. Management reported a ‘perfect storm’ of rising demand for services coupled with a decline in donations. Recent data indicated that food supplies have dropped from a six-to-eight-month reserve to approximately three months. Unlike some other foodbanks, the Liskeard & Looe Foodbank also faces the added financial pressure of paying rent for its premises.
