Lismore island discovery sheds light on early Christianity
Archaeological excavations on the Scottish island of Lismore have uncovered a sixth-century monastery, providing new insights into the spread of Christianity. Experts suggest the site was not merely a remote island refuge but a high-ranking location of international significance.
Findings include extensive cemeteries, decorated stones, and early structures. Notably, archaeologists discovered evidence of high-status craftsmanship, including a large number of crucibles used for smelting gold and silver. Gordon Noble, a professor of archaeology at the University of Aberdeen, described the discoveries as being of exceptional importance.
