Liss housing scheme delayed over affordable housing dispute
A decision regarding a proposal to build 30 new homes in Liss has been deferred due to ongoing disputes over affordable housing quotas. While the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) praised the design of the plans submitted by Property Experts Ltd for the 0.9-hectare site south of Inwood Road, the authority expressed dissatisfaction with the amount of affordable housing offered.
The developer initially claimed providing affordable housing would be unviable, but has since increased its offer to 10 per cent, or three houses. This remains below the six houses requested by the SDNPA. Planning committee members opted to delay the decision to allow for further negotiations between the developer and the authority.
Representatives for the landowners stated that topography, drainage, and infrastructure costs impact the project's economic viability. Meanwhile, local residents have raised concerns regarding site access and the potential loss of parking spaces.
