Literary commemorations and poetry events held in Sivas and Manisa
Various cultural and literary events were held in Turkey to honor prominent writers and poets. In Sivas, the Sivas Writers, Poets and Ashiks Association (SİYŞAD) organized a program at the İhramcızade Cultural Center to commemorate the anniversary of Attila İlhan’s death. The event featured readings of his poetry and musical performances of his composed works, such as ‘Sultani Yegâh’. Participants discussed İlhan’s multifaceted career, including his contributions to cinema and his work as a screenwriter under the pseudonym ‘Ali Kaptanoğlu’.
In Manisa, the ‘Poetry House’ activities continued at the historic Kurşunlu Han with the second installment of the ‘Literature Casino’ program, supported by the Şehzadeler Municipality. Led by local writers Orhan Haşim Elmalı and Engin Topuz, the event explored lesser-known aspects of famous figures including Balzac, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Charles Dickens, as well as Turkish authors like Şukufe Nihal and Ülkü Tamer. The program included poetry readings and interactive Q&A sessions, with a third installment scheduled for next month.
