Literary communities announce SciFiMonth and novella reading initiatives

Various literary communities and bloggers are launching themed reading events for the upcoming months. One initiative, SciFiMonth, is an annual celebration of science fiction involving reading, watching, and listening to works within the genre. The event includes scheduled readalongs, buddy reads, and social media prompt challenges.

In a separate literary focus, readers are highlighting the trend of novella-length works. Recent notable novellas include Johanna Bell’s ‘Department of the Vanishing’, Merlinda Bobis’s ‘In the Name of the Trees’, and Samantha Harvey’s ‘Orbital’. Observers note that publishers appear to be showing increased interest in shorter fiction and novella-length nonfiction in recent years.
