Literary competitions held in Chile promote reading and writing
Two distinct literary initiatives in Chile have recently concluded their evaluation or award phases to foster reading and writing skills.
In northern Chile, the 23rd edition of the Concurso de Cuentos Breves del Norte, organized by Pucobre and Diario Chañarcillo, has completed its judging process. The jury reviewed 2,868 short stories across categories for 5th to 8th-grade students and a special guest category. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 3 at the Centro Cultural Atacama, and winning stories will be published in a book distributed to participants, schools, and public libraries.
In Quillota, the fifth edition of the ‘Quillota en Palabras’ micro-story contest was held as part of the Expo Libros Quillota 2026. Organized by the Liceo Comercial de Quillota in collaboration with local cultural and educational entities, the contest received over 61 entries. This year’s edition expanded to include a category for adults over 18, which received approximately 20 to 25 stories. The event also featured the launch of an anthology compiling stories from previous years.
