Brazil hosts various literary festivals and reading initiatives
Multiple literary events and reading promotion initiatives are taking place across Brazil to celebrate National Book Day and regional culture.
In Itabira, Minas Gerais, the 6th Flitabira International Literary Festival is underway, featuring authors such as Conceição Evaristo and Pedro Bial. The festival celebrates the 75th anniversary of Carlos Drummond de Andrade’s “Claro Enigma” and includes diverse programming for children and adults.
In Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro, the Martinho da Vila Cultural Institute is hosting the “Saberes e territórios brasileiros e lusófonos” literary encounter. The event brings together singer Martinho da Vila, Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa, and historian Luiz Antônio Simas to discuss memory, music, and the Portuguese language.
Other regional activities include the 4th Guarulhos International Book Biennial, which offers free children's programming, and the 11th Maricá International Literary Festival (FLIM), featuring philosopher Marilena Chauí. Additionally, municipal efforts in João Pessoa and Volta Redonda are highlighting public library services and reading incentives for students and local communities.
