Literary festivals launch in Chad and Democratic Republic of the Congo

Two distinct literary festivals are being held in Chad and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, emphasizing the role of reading and expression in different social contexts.

In Chad, the second edition of the Children's Book Carnival launched at the National Library of Chad. Under the theme ‘The book or the screen: what is left for our children?’, the event focuses on promoting reading and imagination in an increasingly digital age. Organizers noted that while digital tools offer learning opportunities, books remain essential for developing concentration, reflection, and language mastery.

In Beni, North Kivu, the second edition of the Book and Arts Festival is taking place at the Ubuntu Wetu Center. Titled ‘Resisting through the pen and the word’, the event is organized by Éditions NGE with support from EUNIC RDC. Held in a region frequently affected by insecurity and armed violence, the festival aims to use art and literature as tools for social and psychological reconstruction, asserting the importance of cultural life despite local instability.
