Literary reviews highlight diverse short story collections
As part of the Short Story September initiative, various literary works and collections are being highlighted.
Featured works include Julian Barnes’s “Homage to Hemingway,” which explores themes of art and life through a literature instructor, and Saul Bellow’s “Leaving the Yellow House,” a character study of an alcoholic woman in the American West.
Other notable collections include Ingrid Horrocks’s “All Her Lives, Nine Stories,” a New Zealand prize-winning collection inspired by feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, and Erika Dreifus’s “Quiet Americans,” which examines themes of displacement, memory, and the refugee experience. The Complete Stories of Alan Marshall is also noted within the literary discussions.
